Caro Novella, Ph.D.

Artist-Researcher working in Community Health and TechnoFeminist Research-Creation. I cultivate rehearsal as method to ignite inquiry, research and activate and connect people through questions that matter.

Conceptually curious about bio-medical sciences and Communities of Practice. I have specialized in Experimental, Participatory research methods, and co-creation. I cultivate embodied research practices at the intersection of dance and improvisation, body installation, visual poetry, collaborative dramaturgy, text composition, bio-art, arts and sciences, and performance art.

Coming from Communication for Social Change (2000) and Community dance, Chagas disease community organizing (2009-2011), Cancer research (2011- 2021), death and queer ecologies (2019- 2024). I am currently working in Art Education projects for training new Medical sensibilities in health practitioners, and developing Arts-based research methods for BioMedical and Scientific Innovation.

MA in health communication and community Arts, and a PhD in Performance Studies (by University of California). I found, in the study and development of Practice As Research (a methodological approach from Performance Studies) - also known as embodied knowledge or Action-Research or Research-Creation, my way of holding Critical Questions, Relational explorations, and exploratory ‘not-knowing’, together.
