The piece Des-echoes will feature in Summerworks , one of Toronto’s most important platforms for launching new work in Canada. The piece, originated at one of Guillermo Gomez-Peña’s infamous performance jams, had a life of its own, and lured Daniel Bear Davis and myself to collaborate in its growth and choreography. An improbable collaboration gave birth to both: the piece, Des-echoes, and a new creative conjoined project of performance and experimental dance: improbable.
Our improbable configuration made that, after the official launching of the piece at Looking Left Festival, in Santa Cruz 2015, we shared not a space/time which would allow us to continue developing it. However, Des-echoes has a life larger than any of us
We are proud and excited to be presenting our ‘beast’ this august p (13, 16 and 17th) at Summerwork Festival in Toronto, Canada.
How do we know the “other” within? In this physically dynamic piece, two inextricably intertwined bodies navigate form and variation in their shared skin. Des-Echoes is an exploration of our relation to the parts that we hide, disassociate from, or ignore. Two bodies are torn apart, conjoined, dismembered, and gathered again in a dance of generative friction. [Des-Echoes] is a complication of the Spanish, “desechos”, meaning “rubbish”, “waste”, “outcast”.
